Corneal Collagen Crosslinking

Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking at See Clearly Vision

Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking also goes by KXL, CXL and corneal crosslinking.

Corneal Collagen Cross-linking is an in-office surgical procedure for eyes that have been damaged by keratoconus.  Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking is performed by applying a liquid riboflavin (Vitamin B2) to the surface of the eye, followed by treatment with a controlled ultraviolet light.

The Procedure

During your initial examination, one of our doctors will perform a comprehensive examination, including corneal topography, measurements of the thickness of your cornea and other variables to make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure.

The Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking procedure takes 60 minutes. Your surgeon will begin by gently removing the epithelial layer of your cornea. The riboflavin eye drops will then be administered, followed by treatment with UV light. A bandage contact lens will be placed on the eye after the procedure. Topical antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops will be prescribed.
